Thursday Weigh In

Down 1.6 this week! :) honestly, that is a gift! And I am going accept it graciously -- and quietly and hope I don't get "caught" by the diet police.

I feel like I wasn't very good this week, but I couldn't have been THAT bad - I stayed OP (on plan) but I eat EVERY LAST ONE of my flex points this week and I did not exercise once and I really fell off the water wagon. So just think how much better I might have done if I had all that going for me too!

Next Wednesday is Valentines Day and my mini- goal was 6 lbs by VD, so I have .6 to go -- if I stay OP I think I can do it! My reward is a full body massage. Then I will need a new mini challenge -- anybody want to set a goal for St Patricks Day or Easter if you want a longer one - - We could say we were "losing eggstra pounds" -- get it -- Easter -- "eggstra" (ha ha)

Who's up for a challenge?

I'm not a contributor - yet, but I wanted to let you guyz know about a book I read this week that I think is my answer to how I got fat and how I can lose the extra lbs. I've read several other "diet" books, Dr. Phil, South Beach, Dr. Adkins, etc... but I've never read anything that makes so much sense as this book. In this book the author explains your body chemistry and how the body reacts (in the digestive arena) when you eat certain things. For myself and anybody else with a medical background it's great review of things you've forgotten since nursing school and learn some new information along the way. For the lay-person there's amusing drawings and things are explained in a way that anybody can understand. I think it's important for people to know how their bodies function.

The keys to this program are:
    Eat nutritionally rich foods
    Avoid toxid foods
Use your body's clues about satiety

This plan is about using your body's chemistry, not will power, to succeed. Obesity is a disease of inflammation, not a disease of poor willpower. It's not my fault I'm fat. Weight gain is caused by a chemical reaction of imflammation when you eat the wrong foods. Eating unhealthy foods triggers an immune response - inflammation. This imflammaion prevents sugar from getting into cells, causing you to want more sugar, which increases inflammation. When you decrease your body's inflammatory response by eating healthy, your waist size will decrease as well.

This plan doesn't count calories or lbs on the scale. Of course, I'll continue to weigh myself because that's what I do. I will also measure my waist weekly. With this plan, it's all about waist size. The larger your waist, the higher your risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, et. I'm learning about healthy vs. unhealthy foods. Oh, and yeah, there's a big emotional factor in overeating and choosing the wrong foods also. This book goes into that aspect as well.

By now you're all wondering "What is the name of this book?" Ok, I'll share :-)

You may have heard of this book on Discovery Health or on Oprah. It's written by Michael F. Roizen, M.D. and Mehmet C. Oz, M.D. (Dr. Oz from Oprah) and the name of the book is "You on a Diet" - The Owner's Manual for Waist Management. I got mine for less than 20 bucks at Meijer. It is soooo worth it. I'm starting the two week plan today which means starting today I'll be walking 30 minutes a day. There's a whole exercise plan that goes with the diet. Last night I went to the books website http://www.realage.com/doctorcenter/intro.aspx and downloaded the workout video - for Free!

I hope you are inspired by this book as I was. I was so excited to be reading some fresh new ideas that I couldn't put the book down. I almost missed a jewelry class because I was so engrossed in this book.

    Happy Reading!

You go is RIGHT! That's so cool! I think Blondie just read that book -- she reads a lot of diet/nutritian stuff and she like it too. The trick is not reading about it but DOING it.

    Thanks for the reference.
